Alice Timmis Studio offers unique woven fashion fabrics, embroideries, and assistance with all stages of textile research, development and production. Our mission is to create quality and statement textiles through a process of handiwork that doesn’t get lost in the stages of clothing creation.

“I worked with Alice Timmis at a specialised Italian factory to create custom weaving with personalised Matty Bovan lettering, graphics and symbols. A lot of time has been spent to develop these and the results are startling: lamé, jacquard and metallic tape filament weaving! It’s so inspiring to collaborate with such an accomplished artisan, and have such new and exclusive fabrications in the collection.”  ---- Matty Bovan, Vogue.co.uk

Our Services:

Hand woven fabrics, mill woven jacquards, and Irish machine embroideries are specialist areas of the studio. We produce from our London based atelier and micro-mill, and on larger capacities with our partner mills. We offer consultation, and unique collaborative projects working with fashion, interior, trend research, yarn developers and fine artists. We work closely with all of our clients to understand their individual requirements, sometimes working to tight deadlines.

Hand Woven Bespoke Cloth

We have looms in our micro-mill of various widths, capable of small-scale sampling and 150cm full-width fabric production. We are a valuable resource for clients who want to commission bespoke hand-woven cloth.

Mill woven Jacquard fabrics

We work with the best quality mills in Italy and the UK to produce high quality jacquard cloth. Clients are invited to select articles from our existing collection and change the colour, yarn and pattern design of our fabrics. We also run a completely bespoke service, creating fabrics in response to client briefs.

Embroidery

In our atelier, we have three Irish embroidery machines reputable for producing artistic high-quality satin stitch. We work with clients to design and produce luxury embroidery, as well as more experimental embellishments incorporating innovative appliquè materials.

About Alice:

Alice Timmis is an established textile designer producing irresistible fabrics. She began working in-house at leading design houses and manufacturers 10 years ago. Having studied an MA in woven textiles at Royal College of Art, and before that trained with embroidery champion, Jenny King, Alice is highly specialised in both woven and embroidered textiles. After the RCA, Alice worked for one of Italy’s largest mills whilst she began to  take on commissions from experimental London designers. Her experience in developing high-end hand-crafted fabrics for the catwalk coincided with building knowledge of industrial manufacture. Many of her industrially woven fabrics are inspired by hand developed techniques – merging craft and the machine.

Alice Timmis is known for her painterly style and the fabrics she creates through mixed processes. Inspired by the application of media in artist’s paintings, Alice applies radical finishing techniques (brushing, painting, embroidery, fil coupé etc. ) to the surface of her textiles to capture a ‘gestural presence’. Alice creates collections of woven and non-woven multi process swatch designs each season directed for both fashion and interiors. These sell internationally. Alice’s designs have sold to companies including ChanelKate Spade, Calvin Klein Home, and Dedar
